Trunk up to 5 m tall; leaves 1.80-2.20 m long, with approx. 65 leaflets on each side of the rachis, up to 45 cm long, with inrolled margins (Fig. 20-2). 

The native range of this species is China (Fujian), Japan (Kyushu) to E. Taiwan. It is a shrub and grows primarily in the subtropical biome. It is has environmental uses, as a medicine and for food.
